Luiz I bridge creates the mother off all things. To check out more about this illustration click here!
At the beginning of this brand, we wanted to challenge our creativity with new perspectives and ideas to illustrate. As a result we had a opportunity participate in a sex convention in the city of Porto. The objective was to design illustrations that could relate Porto’s buildings and landscapes to human sexual symbols. We started by choosing the organs that are more sexually representative/explicit: mouth(lips), breasts, butt, penis and vulva. Then we looked for them in the landscape and architecture landmarks of Porto two weeks before we started sketching. Finally, we identified potential icons of Porto as the Dom Luis I Bridge, the Clérigos Tower, Casa Música/Crystal Palace and Douro River to create this collection. Designed in 1881 by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, the Dom Luis I Bridge is one of the most representative architectural elements of the cast-iron architecture. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous example of this style. You can also see the influence of the same architecture style in the Maria Pia Bridge. Which was also designed by Théophile Seyrig. This bridge placed between the two granite colossuses in Porto and Gaia gives a unique beauty connection to the cities. In our own purpose, we sought to find in this bridge different ways of interpreting. Thus we isolated it, multiplied it, mirrored it… We stopped in this shape where who observes can see the bridge in a structural way or simply in a more organic way with big resemblances to the vulva. Adding the illustration on a blue t-shirt and there is our ironLady.ironLady’s storytelling
