At the beginning of this brand, we wanted to challenge our creativity with new perspectives and ideas to illustrate in a t-shirt.

As a result we had a opportunity participate in a sex convention in the city of Porto. The objective was to design illustrations that could relate Porto’s buildings and landscapes to human sexual symbols.

We started by choosing the organs that are more sexually representative/explicit: mouth(lips), breasts, butt, penis and vulva. Then we looked for them in the landscape and architecture landmarks of Porto two weeks before we started sketching.

Finally, we identified potential icons of Porto as the Dom Luis I Bridge, the Clérigos Tower, Casa Música/Crystal Palace and Douro River to create this collection.

Lips as Douro River

The Douro river gives to the city of Porto curved and contortionist shapes, arising in a very original architectural urban display. In portuguese “douro” means “golden” and the origin of the name itself still diverges today.

Alongside with the Douro margins very beautiful vineyards can be found where the Port Wine is born. These vineyards make natural drawings with some extreme beauty in the valleys where the river flows.

We fitted the Douro River curves and vines on the lips shape, as suggested by the last part of the river.

The creative background

After some time of deliberation, we found a similarity between the human lips and a river top view. Later we studied some parts of the course and discovered similarities to the end part of the Douro.

The selected part of the river starts more or less at Maria Pia bridge and ends at the ocean, from the right to the left.

Then a bright idea came connecting the vineyards curves to fill the lips texture given a full connection along some important parts of the river.

This way we made the connection between two of the most significant parts of the Douro River, the winery region and the riverside architecture of the river, on the lips interior in a red t-shirt.
